Looking south from Edgecombe Drive
The "Golden Spike" was the ceremonial spike driven specifically to mark the completion the First Transcontinental Railroad across the United States connecting the Central Pacific and Union Pacific railroads on May 10, 1869 at Promontory Summit, Utah.
The No. 119 is a steam locomotive which made history as one of the two locomotives (the other being the Jupiter) to meet at Promontory Summit during the Golden Spike ceremony commemorating the completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad.
Kennecott is one of the largest open-pit copper mines in the world in Bingham Canyon.  About 15 miles Southwest of Salt Lake City.
The mine is about 4,000 feet (1.21 KM)  deep and 2.5 miles (4 km) across.  They say they will continue to mine here through 2017.
